Following its transformation from a public administration entity into a joint stock company pursuant to Article 5 of Law Decree 269 of 30 September 2003 (the so-called "Transformation Law"), CDP is 70% owned by the Italian State with the remaining 30% being distributed among 66 Italian banking foundations. More
The Italian State is required by law to maintain the majority ownership of CDP. Minority shareholders may only be banking foundations, banks, and other supervised financial intermediaries, none of which is permitted to own more than 5% of CDP's shares.
According to the Articles of Association of CDP Spa, the shares may only be transferred in favour of banking foundations, as well as banks and supervised financial intermediaries, which fulfil the asset and management requirements, acknowledged by the Board of Directors of CDP.
